How to journal MT5 trades in Notion automatically

Set up automatic trade journaling from MetaTrader 5 into your own Notion workspace in under five minutes, with no code and no manual copying.

Before you start

Step-by-step setup

  1. Install and launch AI Trading Journal. On first launch, click “Start 7-day free trial” or enter your license key.
  2. Create a free Notion integration at notion.so/my-integrations and copy the secret key it gives you.
  3. Add your account in the app. Click the second icon on the left sidebar (Add Account). It opens a window where you paste that token.
  4. Share a Notion page with your integration. Open any Notion page, click the “…” menu, then Connections, and add the integration you just created. Pick that page as the parent when the app asks.
  5. Pick the MT5 account to journal. The app automatically detects your installed MT5 terminals and the accounts logged in to them.
  6. Let it create the databases. It builds a “Daily Trading Recap” database and a linked “Trades” database in Notion for you, so there is nothing to set up by hand.

That's it. Journaling starts automatically and updates every 5 minutes through a Windows scheduled task, with no further input from you.

What shows up in Notion

The Daily Trading Recap database gets one row per day with the result, net P&L, number of trades, win rate, starting and ending balance, and maximum drawdown. The Trades database gets one row per closed trade with the symbol, direction, volume, open and close time, entry and exit price, stop loss, take profit and profit or loss, each linked back to its day.

Each trade also has a Notes field for your own reasoning. The app never overwrites a trade row that already exists, so what you write there stays put.

Notion's API can't create views for you, so if you want a calendar of your results, add a Calendar view to the Daily Trading Recap database and set its date property to “Date”.

Journaling more than one account

Run Add Account again for each MT5 account. Every account gets its own Notion databases, and you can start or stop journaling on any single account from the dashboard without touching the others. That is handy on weekends or when a terminal is closed on purpose.
